Push-Pull Microplanar Magnetic Driver "Ortho"
The Typ821 utilizes the all-new "Ortho" microplanar magnetic driver. Planar drivers come in two types: push-pull and single-driver. The "Ortho" utilizes a push-pull design. Its ultra-thin, lightweight diaphragm, with coils printed with micron-level precision, is driven by five opposing magnets sandwiched between the front and back of the diaphragm, achieving balanced drive. Push-pull drivers sandwich the diaphragm between the front and back magnets, creating a highly responsive driver. This results in exceptional sound quality, delivering bright, detailed highs and powerful lows. However, the use of numerous small, powerful magnets creates integration challenges, making the driver difficult to make compact and lightweight enough for headphone use. Consequently, it has traditionally been used only in larger products like high-end headphones. The newly developed "Ortho" was the result of extensive research and development by experienced dynamic driver engineers, ultimately resulting in a high-quality push-pull driver suitable for headphone use.
Sapphire Crystal: Aesthetics and Functionality
MADOO's design philosophy draws inspiration from the windows of submarines and watches. This is because the design philosophy is to create headphones that are built to last. We searched for a suitable window material and ultimately discovered sapphire crystal. Compared to glass or plastic, sapphire crystal offers exceptional transparency and a beautiful appearance, making it a common material in high-end watches. With a Mohs hardness of 9, it is extremely scratch-resistant and heat-resistant. Considering the durability of the headphones, we felt sapphire crystal was the ideal choice, offering heat and corrosion resistance that glass or plastic lack. Furthermore, from a functional perspective, the window utilizes a gap system to control back pressure on the speaker unit, optimizing its performance. The Type 821 is positioned as the second generation of the existing model and features a new submarine window design. Like the 800 Series models, the striking "8"-shaped screw further evokes the original submarine window concept, ultimately creating a fresh look for MADOO.
Optimized shape based on 300 ear shapes
International standards are primarily based on Western ear shapes, but these ear shapes are significantly larger than those of Asians, often resulting in discomfort. Meanwhile, the primary market for high-end headphones is concentrated in Asia, including Japan, China, and South Korea. Focusing on this, we collected ear shape data from 300 men over three years and, based on this data, ultimately determined the optimal shape. For the Typ821, we further optimized the housing shape, referencing ear shape data from 100 men over a year. The result is a housing that combines excellent fit with refined design. The stem also retains the same oval shape as its predecessor. Given the oval shape of most ears, this cable fits naturally and perfectly delivers the MADOO sound without sacrificing design.
Acoustune Custom Cable
Crafted by our sister brand, Acoustune, this cable utilizes four-core silver-plated copper wire to minimize sound quality loss and ensure full performance from the headphones. The connector utilizes the new "Pentaconn Ear" in-ear headphone jack, designed and manufactured by Japan's DIX Corporation, offering superior sound quality and reliability. Compared to traditional MMCX connectors, the plug and socket provide closer contact, improving conductivity. It combines convenient connection and disconnection functions with excellent durability. This product comes standard with two cables: "MRC011" 3.5mm three-pole L-shaped gold-plated plug and "MRC023" 4.4mm five-pole L-shaped gold-plated plug.
